Compás Flamenco is a flamenco production directed by and starring Sevillian choreographer and dancer Jesús Cortés. It brings together the strength of Andalusian roots with a contemporary vision of flamenco.
The show is built around *compás*—the rhythmic pulse that lies at the heart of flamenco. Rhythm, movement, footwork, handclapping, singing, guitar and percussion come together to create an intense stage experience in which music and dance remain in constant dialogue.
Jesús Cortés understands flamenco as a way of expressing what cannot be put into words. Through movement, dance becomes a language for telling stories, conveying emotions and exploring different emotional states. Powerful footwork, precise choreography and the performers’ expressive artistry create a dramatic narrative based on emotion and direct communication with the audience.
Compás Flamenco preserves the essence and authenticity of traditional flamenco while embracing a contemporary perspective shaped by Jesús Cortés’ artistic career. His choreography is distinguished by its dialogue between the deepest flamenco traditions and new musical and theatrical influences, including elements of jazz and soul.
The production brings together dancers alongside guitarists, singers and percussionists, creating an ensemble in which every element plays an essential role: the body, the voice, the strings, the handclaps and the rhythm of the *cajón*.
