What goes through a poet’s mind as life draws to a close? La Balanguera imagines Joan Alcover’s final moments, transforming his memories, poems and ghosts into a succession of dreamlike theatrical images. Death, so deeply present throughout his life, enters into dialogue with the figures inhabiting his memory and with the verses that established him as one of the great voices of Catalan literature.
The production combines acting, poetry, music, projections and visual theatre to explore the intimate world of the author of Cap al tard and the poem La Balanguera, now the official anthem of Mallorca. Coinciding with the Year of Alcover, this production invites audiences to rediscover the poet through a contemporary perspective.
