After reading the original letters that William Faulkner sent to his lover Meta Carpenter at a documentation centre in Texas, our protagonist decides to reassess his marriage. He reflects on his romantic life, the changes brought about by 17 years together, the desire to start a family and the inevitable routines of everyday life; what is lost, what we manage to hold on to, what we long not to lose, and the natural evolution of a love that once seemed idyllic in youth.
