To be the perfect woman, a model of refinement and charm, lady and mistress of the most famous knight-errant in history, is a burden Dulcinea no longer wishes to bear. In a world where ideals have less and less room to exist, where ethics have given way to aesthetics and morality to corruption, it seems pointless to continue defending impossible dreams. Or is it? Do we today, more than ever, need Dulcinea? Perhaps she—through humor, pain, irony, and absolute sincerity—is the only one capable of giving us that answer.
Juan Carlos Rubio writes and directs this production in which, in the director’s own words, “Paloma San Basilio will sing, of course, accompanied on the piano by a genius who is indispensable in both of their lives: Julio Awad. But above all, and beyond everything else, in Dulcinea Paloma will PERFORM—in capital letters—that ideal woman, forged through clichés and fantasies by the most famous knight-errant in the world, who now tells us her story from another angle: the one only she knows, the one that books of chivalry (brilliant though they may be) have never been able to capture. And she does so with humor, with pain, with irony, and with absolute sincerity.
