I MUSICI

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons

The legend returns! I Musici di Roma come back to the Auditorium de Palma.

After the success of their visit in 2025, the world’s most prestigious chamber orchestra returns to offer us an unforgettable evening. Get ready for a journey to the heart of the Baroque with a programme that culminates in one of the most beloved works of all time: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

This is not just a concert; it is the opportunity to hear the music performed by those who best understand the spirit of Vivaldi. Alongside the energy of “L’Olimpiade” and the elegant contrasts of Wassenaer and Avison, we will experience an evening of virtuosity, emotion and pure musical beauty.

I Musici do not just play music; they make history on stage.

PROGRAMME:

Antonio Vivaldi: Sinfonia from “L’Olimpiade”, RV 725

We begin with the vibrant energy of 18th-century Venice. This sinfonia served as the overture to one of Vivaldi’s most famous operas. Through its three movements (fast–slow–fast), the orchestra displays a theatrical brilliance that prepares us for the dramatic intensity of the evening. It is music full of vitality and technical mastery.

A journey through Europe: Wassenaer and Avison

The programme offers two fascinating stops outside Italy, demonstrating the influence of the Italian style across Europe:

  • Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer (Concerto Armonico No. 5): For centuries, the authorship of these works was a mystery (even attributed to Pergolesi). This concerto in F minor is a piece of extraordinary melancholic nobility. Its opening Adagio immerses us in an intimate and spiritual atmosphere, followed by movements that play masterfully with harmony.
  • Charles Avison (Concerto Grosso No. 6): The English composer Avison was a master at adapting the style of Scarlatti and the great Italian composers. His concerto in D major is full of contrast: from the intensity of the Con Furia movement to the infectious joy of the final Vivamente.

The Masterpiece: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons

To close, we surrender to the work that I Musici have taken around the globe, turning it into a worldwide phenomenon. The Four Seasons are not just violin concertos; they are sound poems.

Listen to the birdsong in Spring, the oppressive heat and summer storm in Summer, the harvest celebration in Autumn, and the shivering cold alongside the warmth of the fire in Winter. It is a masterpiece of descriptive music where every note tells a story about humanity’s relationship with nature.

Fun fact: I Musici were among the first to record this work in the 1950s, helping the world rediscover the genius of Vivaldi, which had remained hidden and forgotten in a collegiate church in Borgo San Martino. Listening to them today is like going straight to the source.
